Today we had the day off so I hitched to Gisborne. A really nice older man who owns a sheep farm picked me up fairly quickly. He ended up inviting me to lunch with his wife who was also very sweet. They ended up inviting me to come work on their farm, but I would feel bad leaving my commitment at Marahangia early so I don’t know if I will. However I feel torn about it, I really wanted to work on a sheep farm while I am in New Zealand, but I am actually really enjoying myself here. After lunch I went to a hostel to take a shower. Adam is so weird about how much water we use. All his water is captured rainwater and recycles ALL of it. No water is allowed to go down a drain, it all has to be caught in buckets to be reused. Eventually once it’s gross and dirty and smelling horrible then we use it to flush the toilet. He’s taken the handle off so when you use it, you just pour a bucket of water and it manually flushes the toilet. It was the same at the Earthships except it felt way more sanitary. Anyways, it’s too much trouble to take a shower at his place and I was just bathing in the river. But today, I wanted a real shower with nice hot water. After that I bought a smoothie and then hitchhiked back home with two Indian guys. This evening the girls made a special German dish. I’ll have to ask Mona what the name of it was again tomorrow. It was really delicious; very cheesy. We then drank wine and cider and watched Minions, it was a really enjoyable evening.
